Today I had the privilege to job shadow Matias Labarrare. He is one of the head directors that runs the City of Encinitas. He has many people working for him, and I was able to see what many of them do on a day to day basis. For starters, to get through each pair of glass double doors throughout the building, you need a key card that is exclusive to employees. Every person that worked for Matias from the I.T to the sub-division managers had one of those key cards, I was able to follow 6 out of the 18 people that worked for Matias, and each of them played different roles such as technical maintenance on the town hall chambers, or even mapping out the entire city's underground water systems. I even saw the massive room full of monitors that showed traffic cameras and where crosswalks might need to be installed. I enjoyed being informed on how a city manages itself and how well all the pieces to things flow together to make one big happy city. There were a lot of skills I observed today and I know for a fact I can use them later on in life.
