Today I shadowed Felicia Martinez, a leading technician at most CVS Pharmacies in San Diego. I chose to shadow her because she has been a friend of mine for a long time, and I didn't know what she did on a day to day basis behind the counter. Today I got to see how she receives customers and how she is able to problem solve with people who can only say five words in English. She faxed important documents to doctors that needed it, and simultaneously was taking calls from people asking questions about their medication. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take any photos behind the counter because of security safety and concern of their customers. I believe this was because of how many medications (with names on them) and how much personal information is readily available to the technicians and pharmacists. Also most of the customers probably didn't want a kid behind the counter taking pictures of them
The differences (from my understanding) between what Felicia does and what pharmacists do are not incredibly big, though I remember her turning down the option to be moved up to the top of the CVS food chain and manage the store along with the medical department because she would be working much harder for the same great pay she gets now.

Today I had the privilege to job shadow Matias Labarrare. He is one of the head directors that runs the City of Encinitas. He has many people working for him, and I was able to see what many of them do on a day to day basis. For starters, to get through each pair of glass double doors throughout the building, you need a key card that is exclusive to employees. Every person that worked for Matias from the I.T to the sub-division managers had one of those key cards, I was able to follow 6 out of the 18 people that worked for Matias, and each of them played different roles such as technical maintenance on the town hall chambers, or even mapping out the entire city's underground water systems. I even saw the massive room full of monitors that showed traffic cameras and where crosswalks might need to be installed. I enjoyed being informed on how a city manages itself and how well all the pieces to things flow together to make one big happy city. There were a lot of skills I observed today and I know for a fact I can use them later on in life.
Today I shadowed Dr. Kristine Tran, an independent dentist who has worked in La Jolla for years. She is extremely good at what she does, and I got my teeth cleaned while I was there. I had the opportunity to watch Dr. Tran perform various activities, and observed how each machine they use works. Though it was someone else getting a cavity filled, I still cringed often. The teeth shown on the screen was one of my X-rays that in all took merely 2 minutes. Though I was cringing often, I enjoyed getting the chance to see what a dentist does while you're staring at the ceiling sweating bullets. I am glad I got the chance to learn about the inner workings of a dentist office, especially one so successful.
Today I shadowed Kenny Albertini at SounDelux, the top Car Audio installation and fabrication shop in the 619 area. I really enjoyed shadowing him because he owns the business and I have had a self taught and pursued passion for audio. I learned a lot of tricks of the trade and met a ton of people. We made a plan for me to work for him in the summer. I've known him for a very long time and an official job shadow was overdue. The pictures are of a hard top convertible Jeep with a custom roll cage and 4 point harness seats for the perfect desert car. To get one 12 inch subwoofer (middle) and two full range speakers (left and right) we had to create custom enclosures and on top of that a place to mount them. Because the fiberglass needed one day to cure, my boss built the main parts of the speaker enclosures with half inch thick wood and the rest of the cone shape with fiberglass. This gave the speakers a solid backing and extremely loud sound capabilities, I was able to experiment with wiring amps and properly connecting wires. I enjoyed working on cars all day and I plan on doing it this summer. I would much rather be working than in school. I learned a lot about how to diagnose what a client wants and how they see their stereo system turning out and I feel this will benefit my communication skills greatly, and that's something I will use for the rest of my life.
